Fear vs faith

Fear vs faith is a daily battle for many people in today’s world where one is bombarded by the news media with upsetting reports. How does one stay hopeful and overcome the battle of fear vs faith?

You may have heard the expression, ‘Fear is the darkroom where you expose your negatives.’ This is a light-hearted take on the topic, but it underlines a key truth. Fear is a negative and closely aligned with worry, while faith is a positive and full of hope.

God doesn’t want us to live in fear. The words ‘fear not’ are used throughout the Bible 365 times. That amounts to a daily instruction from Heaven that we shouldn’t ignore.

Yes, there are many conflicts around the world that are a huge cause for concern. The Israel-Hamas War has the potential to spill over into the wider region and is creating instability in nations around the world in a clash of civilisations. Though it seems it’s no longer at the forefront of the news, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Some would say that there are rumours of a Third World War.

There have been earthquakes in places like Turkey, floods in many countries, and famine. Moreover, innocent people are murdered or trafficked, children abused and Christians are persecuted in many lands. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to look and it is very easy to be fearful these days.

Fear vs Faith

The important thing for us as believers is to keep looking up. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Believing in God changes everything. It means He is actively involved in our situation, helping us to overcome any doubts we may have, gently reassuring us by His presence in our lives. We have many wonderful promises in His word that we can speak over our lives as well as the ability to pray. Always ask yourself, “Where is God in your situation?” Be honest in identifying the problem… I am scared of…. then add these two words that make all the difference… BUT GOD.

If you trust God, in any battle of fear vs faith, faith is going to win. Joyce Meyer, says fear is a feeling that can be overcome (see video below) This means you can feel fear and not be afraid… Be encouraged by watching this clip, and take up Joyce’s challenge to trust God and act confidently that He will come through for you, even if you have to “do things afraid.” Win the battle of faith vs fear and don’t let fear stop you from achieving your God-given destiny.
