National Day of Prayer reminds Americans of the constant need to lean on God

With millions of people praying together on May 4, 2023, America’s National Day of Prayer was a powerful reminder that America is a nation under God, and prayer is constantly needed.

The National Day of Prayer Broadcast 2023, hosted by and the National Day of Prayer Task Force was broadcast on May 4th from the National Museum of the Bible in Washington DC.

The annual event is held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. The national observance was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry Truman. This year’s theme was ‘Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much’. (James 5:16).

You can watch the 2023 event below with Task Force Chairperson, Kathy Branzell along with prominent faith leaders across the nation including Rev Sammy Rodriguez, Madeline Manning Mims, Chaplain Black, Chaplain Kibben, Congressman Tony Hall, Kristen Waggoner, Robert Morris, Jeff Eckart, Nick Hall, Lecrae, Ken Harrison, James O. “Our nation continues to face many challenges,” said Jim Bolthouse of the Presidential Prayer Team. “Even though we have come through the pandemic, the US economy is still struggling. Divisions in society and in the government have grown wider, to the point that some wonder if they can even be bridged. But we know that God is able to heal and restore. And we are confident that He hears us and responds when we pray.”

The National Day of Prayer was a day when people of faith united to lift up pleas and intercessions before Almighty God on behalf of the nation. For nearly 22 years, The Presidential Prayer Team has actively encouraged prayer for the USA and those who are in positions of leadership. Founded in 2001, it a full-time nonpartisan ministry dedicated to encouraging and inspiring people to pray for the president and leadership of the USA.
