Thanksgiving 2022 – What do we have to be thankful for?

1

Following all the challenges of the past couple of years, what does Thanksgiving 2022 look like?

Thanksgiving 2020 was possibly one the worst we can remember. With many places closed and family gatherings restricted it was extremely difficult. Added to this, was all the uncertainty of the election result which is still a huge question mark for many people.

Looking back over the past year and all that has transpired, many people may find it hard to be thankful for anything. Yet that is precisely what we need to be to keep going in these tough times.

Let’s consider all we’re grateful to God for. When we express our thanks to Him something inside us changes. The things we are disappointed about, frustrated with or afraid of seem to shift. When we thank Him, we acknowledge His Lordship over our lives and joy and peace return.

In Psalm 100:4-5 we read: “Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Thanksgiving is what clears the way for us to be in God’s presence, it takes our mind off the negative things we have to bear, shifts us away from a negative, critical disposition and resets our attitude. This opens us up to experience God’s goodness and remind ourselves of His unfailing, never-ending love and the eternal purpose He has for our lives.

If you can’t be with your family, we all feel your frustration. Perhaps you have lost a loved one recently and you’re battling the thought of having to celebrate the holidays without them. In such situations many blame God for their loss.

Or perhaps you are disappointed about the Midd Term Election result and are anxious about the future of the nation. We all know that there is much at stake. President Trump helped to hold back dark forces and bravely stood up for the sanctity of life. He was been a friend to Israel and upheld religious liberties. So it’s worrying to consider that so many things have changed under the Biden administration.

Let’s not blame God for our losses but press in to Him like never before. If you are feeling bereaved, you may be comforted by reading Keys To Surviving The Holidays While Grieving.

Happy Thanksgiving 2022. Let’s be thankful for this nation, let’s thank God for His great and precious promises to us, and put our faith and trust in Him, no matter what. It is in Him alone that we can be victorious. As 2 Corinthians 2:14 says, “Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”
