The supernatural thriller, Nefarious was well received in theaters in April, 2023, but the movie has really found its audience on home entertainment. The Nefarious Movie has been topping the rental charts for Amazon, Apple, Vudu, and Google Play and is also currently on Amazon’s top ten list for DVD’s.
The film was written and directed by the team of Cary Solomon and Chuck Konzelman, who are the creative force behind the successes of Unplanned and God’s Not Dead. It is based on A Nefarious Plot by radio/podcast host and best-selling author Steve Deace.
The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery as ‘Nefarious’ and Jordan Belfi as ‘Dr James Martin’.
Cary Solomon shared that the team is fielding interest from prominent production companies and networks about a follow-up series.

Nefarious is about the epic battle between good and evil, and received an impressive Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 96%, and 4.5 stars on Amazon. The film also received reviews and endorsements that have been overwhelmingly positive, and have audiences making comparisons to CS. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters. Most reviews include a five-star rating and praise for being “thought-provoking,” “riveting,” and “mind- blowing.”
The film earned the praise and endorsements of several national figures including Cardinal Burke, Pastor Jack Hibbs, Fr. Carlos Martins from the Exorcist Files, and actor Jim Caviezel, who enthusiastically saw the movie three times in five days.
Nefarious movie synopsis
On the day of his scheduled execution, a convicted serial killer (Sean Patrick Flanery, gets a last-minute, court-ordered psychiatric evaluation. The killer astonishes visiting psychiatrist Dr. James Martin (Jordan Belfi) by insisting that instead of trying to avoid his execution, he is in fact a demon—Nefarious—who wants his execution to go forward.
As a storm gathers outside the prison, Nefarious chips away at Dr Martin’s resolve and conviction, confounding and unsettling him so much that he begins to doubt his own sanity and fears for his life. As the two face off, they deliver crackling energy and a series of disturbing preternatural revelations propelling them to an inexorable, astounding conclusion.
